Details of what it means to be an angel in her world can be found here, but specifically, she is an AoD, and that means she can see someone's death before it happens. Her Calling means that she is there to help people through that death - by taking away their pain and making sure they aren't alone, right down to their very last breath. She is there to help them find peace, whatever is waiting for them on the other side.
Angels of death, by definition, are very rare and they don't get to live very long because of this Calling, and Sarah struggles with her own mortality along with trying to grow up into whoever she is meant to be in spite of it.
